Pre-ordering produce is the key to reducing food waste.
“Pre-ordering your produce is the key to reducing food waste” says Richard Bacon, founder and owner of Organic Boxes.
This week sees the launch of Love Food, Hate Waste - NZ, a three year campaign to reduce food waste across the whole of New Zealand. At a packed launch event at the Southern Cross on Wednesday 8th June, business owners, chefs, councillors and community leaders gathered to begin the campaign to share the message of thoughtful shopping and cooking with the aim of reducing the multi-million dollar waste mountain New Zealanders create each year.
“How often have you been tempted by displays of fresh produce at the market or supermarket and then found yourself throwing away half of what you bought on impulse?” asks Richard.
“Organic Boxes orders just enough produce, direct from growers, to fill orders we receive each week.” he says. “This means customers only buy what they need and growers only harvest what people want. It’s a wonderfully efficient use of resources for both ends of the food chain, leading to fresher food that is wasted less.”
